Jordan King scored a phenomenal treble podium on his Monza debut this weekend, again belying his young age and relative inexperience in the final rounds of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC.

Competing in his rookie season of car racing, Jordan has contested selected rounds of the North European Cup alongside his Formula Renault commitments in the UK. After impressing on previous outings in Germany, Holland and the Czech Republic, the world famous Monza circuit on the outskirts of Milan hosted the final three races of the ultra competitive 2011 NEC series.

Arguably set to be King’s biggest challenge yet, the Hugo Boss Brand Ambassador wasted no time acclimatising to the circuit by setting the third fastest time during Friday’s Free Practice sessions. He backed up that confidence boosting run by claiming an emphatic pole position on Saturday afternoon and would line up second for race two of the weekend triple-header.

The 17-year-old made a good getaway in the opening race but was later jumped by series regular and Red Bull Junior driver Daniil Kvyat. King kept Kvyat honest throughout and eventually crossed the line in second – just 0.700s behind the race winner.

Kvyat was joined at the front by team-mate and recently crowned champion Carlos Sainz Jnr in race two, as the Red Bull duo claimed a 1-2 finish. King impressively proved to be the ‘best of the rest’ to take third.

King started the final race of the weekend from fifth as the top six from the opening contest were reversed on the grid. This didn’t stop the youngster from completing a memorable podium treble as he clawed his way up to third by the finish.

“It was a great weekend and a fantastic experience,” said King. “I actually think we could have got an even better result in the final race, but to score three podiums is very pleasing. I am now looking forward to final races of the UK series at Brands Hatch and Silverstone.”
