King prepares for UK season finale
Jordan King ended up sixth during the final CERTINA Formula Renault 2.0 UK testing of the 2011 season at Silverstone today (Friday).
The rookie ace has enjoyed several highs and lows during his maiden season of car racing and began his season finale weekend in confident mood. Times again showed that he had some performance in hand with much of the running taking place on used tyres from the previous event at Brands Hatch.
King was again the top performer from his Manor Competition squad with his team-mates Josh Hill and Alice Powell down in ninth and twelfth respectively. Fortec Motorsport again took up the mantle of heading the session, as teams struggle to keep pace with the development of the champion squad.
17-year-old King is undeterred by the challenge however as he and Atech Reid GP driver Tio Ellinas have consistently taken the fight to the Fortec drivers throughout the season. The Hugo Boss Brand Ambassador expects this weekend to be no different, as he hopes to challenge for a podium on his final UK outing of the year.
“Today was ok,” he said. “You don’t really look too much into the times on a Friday as people are running different testing programmes. I am reasonably happy – we could have gone a few tenths quicker, but we are set well for qualifying tomorrow. I am looking forward to the weekend and I’m focussed on ending the season on a high.”
The qualifying sessions take places at 09:00 and 14:15 respectively tomorrow, before the final two races of the season commence at 09:30 and 16:25 on Sunday. The event is part of the British Touring Car Championship bill and is set to take place in front of a huge crowd at the ‘home of motorsport’ – fans who cannot make the event can watch Jordan’s races live on ITV4 HD on Sunday.
