Young British talent Jordan King again impressed on foreign soil by claiming his maiden podium in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup at the weekend.

Contesting his third event in the series, after racing at both Oschersleben and Zandvoort, King arrived at Most in the Czech Republic in confident mood. He set the fastest time overall during practice before going on to claim fifth and second respectively in qualifying for the opening two races of the triple header weekend.

Despite challenging for a podium and setting the third fastest lap in the first race, contact between King and third placed Alessio Picariello on the final lap sent them both out of the race – handing the last podium place to Stoffel Vandoorne.

Race two proved to be more fruitful for King as he fought his way to a well earned podium – his first in the ultra competitive series. The victory belonged to newly crowned champion Carlos Sainz Jnr, who was joined on the rostrum by Daniil Kvyat and King.

With the grid for race three being made up of the finishing order in race one, 17-year-old King clawed his way up to 16th at the finish after having started at the rear of the field due to his non-finish in the opening contest.

A full report on Jordan’s weekend, including quotes from the man himself, will be published on Tuesday afternoon. The last round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup will be held at the Grand Prix track of Monza, Italy from the 23rd until the 25th of September, where Jordan will again be competing.
