17-year-old ended his remarkable rookie season of car racing by winning the $50,000 MRF Delhi Championship in India today, in front of thousands of fans and the entire F1 paddock ahead of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.

The young Briton secured the illustrious prize after scoring the most points from the weekend double-header of races, which were contested by 20 talented young drivers from around the world.

King was quickly up to speed at the new Buddh International Circuit during practice and qualifying, and started the opening race on Saturday from third on the grid. Pole-sitter Nick Percat was able to pull away from the start of the race as King put pressure on a familiar face in second place – his Formula Renault team-mate Alice Powell. Former Australian Formula Ford Champion Percat held an unassailable lead by the time King made his move stick on Powell to claim a well earned second place at the finish.

The showdown took place earlier today with $50,000 being up for grabs to the winner, with second and third taking $30,000 and $20,000 respectively.

From second on the grid, Jordan produced one of his best ever performances to take a storming victory, which was greatly enjoyed by his family and fans alike. The Marussia Virgin F1 Team, who are part of the Manor Formula Renault Team that Jordan has raced with during 2011, also took great delight in the victory by posting their congratulations to Jordan on Twitter.

The MRF Delhi Championship was an invitational event that pitted 20 drivers against one another in identical Van Diemen single-seater chassis. The car boasts a 1.6 litre Ford Duratec Engine and has been rigorously tested by a host of professional drivers, including India’s F1 star Narain Karthikeyan.

Prior to returning to the UK, Jordan said: “I am delighted with the win. It is fantastic to do this at such a big event and is a great way to end 2011.” A full report on the weekend will be posted at www.jordanking.co.uk tomorrow and will include more insight from the man himself.
