Go Jordan! Super 1 display seals victory

Harbury youngster Jordan King began the 2008 go-karting season by winning his first national race in the sport.

The 14-year-old claimed first place in the opening race of the Super 1 competition at the Clay Pigeon circuit in Dorset during Easter Weekend.

Jordan competes in both this series and the British Racing Drivers Championship Stars of Tomorrow competition.

This is the one in which Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton began his racing career.

And the young driver believes he can challenge for both titles after a steady pre-season warm up and claiming this chequered flag finish.

Jordan said: “We were a bit up and down over the winter. But we’ve known we’ve always had the pace. Clay is very much a drivers’ track, so the win in Super 1 just proved that we are there and we can do it.”

After qualifying eighth in his first ever time-trial, Jordan suffered an early set-back in the first heat of the race as he came off the track and finished 12th.

But he came back to finish third in the second heat and then first in the pre-final to claim pole position in the final.

In the decisive race Jordan battled his way to second place but later learned that the winner had been disqualified because of an engine infringement.

This meant Jordan was promoted to the top of the podium and will receive the trophy for his maiden success at his next race.

He said: “ The first round is always the best one to win. It was amazing and now I’m going to go for the championship. The other drivers will be really hard to beat, but I have just got to be consistent and keep going for it – it will certainly be close.”
