Jordan King’s rapid rise through the ranks of motorsport began back in 2005, when he started karting on indoor tracks ‘just for a bit of fun’. The then 11-year-old soon got hooked, moving on to outdoor karting the following year as a cadet. In 2007 things got serious: Jordan’s move to the Minimax Super One National Kart Championship, the key series that the vast majority of top British racers come through, saw the young driver finish in 12th place.

He improved his performance brilliantly in 2008 by coming a close second in the national championship. Jordan moved up to the KF3 series in 2009, also experiencing his maiden European triumph at the WSK International Series. Now well into his fourth year of competing, his ambitions remain undimmed: “Once I’ve finished karting, I want to move into cars and move my way up each class. Hopefully, I’ll make it to Formula 1 one day.”

Q&A: How did your karting career start?

I started karting on an indoor track. I just went along for a bit of fun, but then got really hooked and moved into outdoor karting.

Q&A: Who are your racing heroes?

I would have to say Ayrton Senna is my all-time hero. Out of the drivers racing now, I like Sebastian Vettel.

Q&A: What are your career highlights so far?

All the titles I’ve won so far – especially the British Grand Prix in 2008.

Q&A: How do you prepare for a race?

I sit in the kart and focus.

Q&A: What’s your favourite track?

Clay Pigeon. I’ve had some good wins there.

Q&A: What’s the next racing challenge?

Hopefully to become the British Champion and European/World Champion.

Q&A: What are you into outside racing?

I used to play a lot of sports competitively, but I’ve had to stop due to commitment to my driving.

Q&A: Do you see racing being your career?

Yes, definitely.
